Several people recommended limewire, but is it legal to download songs from there?

It is NOT legal to download copyrighted music. If someone records a song in his/her house and shares it with everybody, that's ok to download. Some artists use this method to get people to listen to their songs. however, downloding songs form famous singers is illegal since it is copyrighted.

Why downloading music that you already have? It's better to rip your CD!

Hi,
Here you can find a good place where to download Limewire: http://bitly.com/VMexAV

I love Limewire and I'm an avid user. If I want to download a music file I use Limewire always. you should get limewire too. It's a good peer to peer software if you have to download mp3, movies, videos or file.
Limewire is a safe and reliable program but like all peer to peer program you have to be careful of what you are donwloading from it. You always have to be cautious about what you download.
Don't use torrents/downloads from other sites, they might be backdoored.
Have a nice day

Downloading any licensed music from any peer to peer file sharing program is, generically termed, illegal. LImeWire. like BearShare, FrostWire, etc, is a peer to peer file sharing program on the Gnutella Network.

That being said, I have used LimeWire (starting with the free Basic and later up-grading to LimeWire Pro Beta) for 1 1/2 years.
Previously, I had tried BearShare and Kaaza and would uninstall
them because of pop-ups, lack of search resources and screwing up my system! LimeWire is a dream come true.

I have an old vinyl record collection of 500 45 rpm's and 75 33 1/3 albums dating from 1951 thru about 1971. My present stereo system does not have a turn table, so I couldn't play these old records. I was able to find and download every single one of these musical memories by using LimeWire and burn them onto cd's.

I was so impressed with the free Basic version, that I paid the $18.00 to purchase LimeWire Pro with gives me access to more resources.

LimeWire has never caused any problems with my 6 year old, Windows 98, Pentium II 40gig system which has been upgraded more working memory, ATI graphics card, Creative sound card system, Mad Dog52x cdr (can burn 22 songs on a cd in 5 minutes compared to 45 minutes from that the old cdr used to take), and second 20 gig harddrive for storage. I could go on, however, the point is LimeWire has not ever caused a moments problem with this tired, old system that is usually being pushed to the max! I have spent many hours reading the Gnutella LimeWire forums which provide a wealth of information for optimal set -up and configuration of LimeWire.

We connect 2 computers ( the other one being a 6 month old Dell with Windows XP) via a router, thru a firewall, to a highspeed cable modem connected to our broadband isp. Both systems can on line, downloading music, playing World of War Craft , without a wimper. From the forums, I learned how to allow LimeWire uploads to others thru the firewall and configure bandwidth usage so that neither of the systems slow down.

I have read much about P2P file sharing and the law. Downloading isn't the legal issue; sharing unlicensed files with others via uploads is. There are many people who don't share their files, or only a very few, but they greedily download 100's of songs from others . I believe that "if I have it and you want it then come and get it" so I share my entire library of 1287 files.

Like anything else in life, the decision to participate in P2P file sharing involves choices and risks. Examine your risks, make your choices and then, take full responsibilty outcome. Otherwise, life would be so boring.

May the rich adventure of Life bring you peace and Wisdom

It is illegal to download copyrighted music from Limewire or any other p2p or bittorrent network. Period. Why do you think the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has sued over 3,000 people for downloading music? If you want music legally go to a record store or by it from Itunes. If you want it illegally and risk the feds busting down your door at 4 A.M. in the morning, be my guest.

If the music is licensed. Then yes, it is technically illegal to download over a P2P (Peer to Peer) network. If you are downloading the music to create a legal backup of your legally purchased copy, then it is okay.

It depends on what you are downloading
If is a copywrited song and you aren't paying anything to the artist then it's probably illegal.
If it's public domain then no it isn't illegal.
