why sell all the oil. why not keep it and use it to improve your society? USA loves their oil burners and their whole world is built up on autos and so forth. Did Mohammed say anything bad about mechanical devices or something? The arabs used to be real advanced technology. What happened?

Areas of the Arab world do indeed use automotive technology fully. There are parts which are dirt poor because they have very little farmable land and the wars do not help either. They sell the oil because they have more than enough for those who can afford the vehicles, but additionally the oil that is sold is a major income source.
Saudi Arabia is actually a reasonably prosperous area. Places such as Iran are hurting because they are not playing nice with much of the rest of the world, so economic sanctions have been applied and they can't sell their oil to many places- if you're broke you can't buy a car and if you don't have a car you don't need gas. You need a camel!
The culture might be changing as well. Was this fundamentalism we see now just as popular during those times? How was their treatment of science and technology compared to now? There are areas in the past which were more liberal than the US is now. Where are we going globally? These questions need to be addressed to fully understand what is happening.

I'd like to say that your question is totally ridiculous from an economic stand point. Why would the Arabs want to burn their oil when they can export it? The more oil they use, the less oil they can sell to industrialized countries who need it very much, and thus the less money they have coming into the country.

Most Arabs come from countries where the majority of the wealth is in the hands of a few people. They mostly live in feudal
societies The ones riding around in their Mercedes Benz are not the ones attacking or angry at the Western World.
