Sacramento, Calif.--Amanda Blake's physician, Lou Nishimura, said Saturday that the actress, "Miss Kitty" on television's Gunsmoke, died of AIDS. Blake died Aug. 16 at the age of 60 from throat cancer complicated by a type of viral hepatitis brought on by AIDS. No mention of AIDS was made at the time of her death. Nishimura said Blake never disclosed how she became infected with HIV, but that she did not use IV drugs and had not contracted the virus through transfusion. Nishimura said he diagnosed Blake, but that the AIDS diagnosis did not surprise her. He believes she was tested for HIV while travelling in Africa, where she went because of her love of animals.

Blake died in Sacramento, California at the age of 60 from a type of viral hepatitis brought on by AIDS. She had previously battled cancer and was in remission. The media was originally told her cause of death was cancer, but in 1991, it was revealed that she died of AIDS.

According to her friend she never consumed the marriage with Spaeth, and he actually told people he thought he got AIDS from her! He thought she may have contracted it on one of her many trips to Africa. None of it really checks out...
