Anyone have info on alternative treatment for possible chronic bone infection in a below knee amputation?

My husband's amputation occurred in Nov 2005 and was revised in May 2006. It was caused by a diabetic ulcer that became gangrenous. He has a draining wound that has not healed from the revision. Further amputation is advised although bone infection has not been proved.

The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN - get your husband there. Now this will sound gross, and forgive me for that.. but there is a maggot treatment that will eat away the infected area. I said it was gross.. If it were my leg - and yes, I am diabetes myself - I would try this first. And I hate maggots!
