That's the problem with cable modem. You're sharing what they tout as a high speed broadband line with the whole neighborhood, which means that that high-speed line is split into however many people are connected and using it at that point. So if 60 households are using your 3 mbps line, you're down to 50 kbps, which is modem speed.

Get DSL - it's your own line. Even if it only goes up to 1.5 mbps, it's all yours, and no one else can fight you for bandwidth.

your internet speed can be slowed down by a large number of other people using the same subscriber as you at the same time.

well - that means at that particular point of time, there are too many users accessing the net - just gets busier at that time. Hence the speed slows down a bit.

sometimes your anti-virus is working in the background & it slows browsing. Or its possible some website are installing adwares/spywares, its causing your browser to work slow. Incase adwares are already installed on your pc then they are sending data & thus sharing your internet bandwidth. Best get an anti-spy/adware & remove them. Install spybot:search & destroy & adAware SE from download.com

Because cable is a shared connection, thus the more people on the connection the slower the connection.

You are sharing the cable with other subscribers.

Other reasons could involve viruses and/or spyware.

Because cable companies are the spawn of the devil. I'm currently disgusted with mine. Sorry.
