I was very near a a very small one hit the ground several years ago, and in no way did it sound anything like a fwwoooop, it sounded like a thud, as the last little bit that had not burned up smacked into the ground, i looked around but never did find anything because it probably busted into a few hundred pieces even though by the time it hit, it could not have been bigger than a small marble, but one thing was VERY cool, the different colors it emitted as it burned up on entry, blue, red, white, SPLAT.

Sounds like "fireworks" and not a meteroite. The "full of ash" doesn't quite fit with a meteorite unless you are describing some object which the meteorite struck (such as a pile of grass, wood, etc.)
