I think this is a more interesting question than most people have given it credit for being.
This is my theory:
People tend to do things that can benefit them somehow. Novelty seems almost always to benefit us. As we start to realize either that the benefit from certain knowledge has been achieved already or that the work involved to continue to benefit from
something is more than we want to put into something, then the attraction to that item or object lessens. An adult has a better chance of sticking with a subject that doesn't immediatly gratify in some way than does a child, and in doing so, the adult strengthens its will.
I suppose this begs the question, WHY do we crave the new, especially as children, but I think that is going to come back to the fact that it is the nature of a human being--or if I were to venture out spiritually, I would say that novel experience is one of the purposes of life.
I think the key is never to lose that desire for novelty while at the same time having a will strong enough to muscle through the tedious in order to get to gratification.

People get bored because they lack creativity to find something to keep their mind stimulated. Repetitive routines need not be boring if you make a "game" out of it (as long as the quality of whatever work you are doing does not go down). Besides, people who are bored lack motivation to do things for themselves to stimulate their minds. They want someone else to do the thinking for them. Guess their brains will eventually turn to mush for lack of use, eh?

There's a lot of boring situations that can't be avoided. Having nothing to do can be remedied, most of the time people get bored because there's nothing that they want to do, not because they have nothing to do. Boredom and annoyance usually go hand in hand. For example;
Having to waste your time waiting for someone is probably on the top of the list. Like a Dr's appointment, Your appointment was for 8:00AM, and the Dr makes you wait till 1:00PM before your name is called. You never expected to have to sit for 5 hours and you didn't bring along anything to keep your mind busy. Furthermore, you are a male and you have no interest in the clinic's 3 year old magazines on the advantages of breast feeding your baby.
Reruns of reruns on TV - News is the worst of the lot here.
Trying to be polite when someone you know but don't particularly want to talk to keeps talking after you inform them you need to do something.
The neighbor insists on presenting you a slide show of her vacation trip, complete with dozens of photos of her cute little dog that dug up your flowers, craps on your lawn and steals your newspaper. Very very boring!! Annoying as well.
Political candidates running for office. = B-O-R-I-N-G
Repetitive work - assembly lines, fixed routines, ect

three things
mind state....physical state and neurotransmitters
if you have an active environment with plenty different things to do for leisure and distraction it will be hard to get bored
if you are in shape to lets say....go jogging at 6 am or have a swim for an hour or climb walls you will enjoy it and fell less bored than most ppl
and if your neurotransmitters such as serotonin
dopamin and endorphines are in good levels they make the rest of the job

People hear what they want to hear.
But when they hear what they don't want to hear, they say that they get bored!
One person's 'bore' may be another person's delight!
It all depends.
If a boring person has a young cute daughter / daughters, youngmen won't call him a 'bore' however boring he may be. It will apply to stupid boring moms too.

Being bored is a warning sign that your mind (or body) is not being challenged. It is set up to give you this warning because when unchallenged, your mind wastes energy and loses opportunity to better its own efficiency. Boredom is unpleasant for the same reason that pain is unpleasant: a warning sign is more potent when it is unpleasant.

The mind needs variety to keep it occupied and in order to learn new things. Some students get bored because they have to sit still in the classroom, but they need to be able to move in order to stay interested and to learn. (they are called kinetic learners.)

well, it is said that an idle mind is a devil's workshop. unlike some peolpe i feel people get bored because they force them self to be. its up to us to be bored or not.we can keep our self occupied at all times, but the problem is how, right?
i'd recommend a book. belive me.. it really works. but remember u've got to sit with a book of ur interest, not a book for name sake. so if people feel bored, it becoz they dont have anything else to do or becoz they dont want to do.

People get bored because, really boredom
is a naturally state of being.
We are actually empty to begin with, and we strive continuously to fill the emptiness. We can fill the emptiness with an endless list of things to do. Like eat, smoke, drink, sx, think, work, act, go, on and on and on.
Only to find oneself bored again.
