it seems so distant but segregation was a part of daily life even way into like the 60s. i know if someone was abusive to my grandparents and denied their civil rights i'd still be pissed off about it, wouldn't you? segregation is over but the racism still persists because it takes waaay more than a few decades for the two races to heal their wounds inflicted over centuries and centuries.

That's a good question and one that's plagued me for years. I grew up on the west coast of America with very little predjudice in my life and had friends of all races, but feelings still run deep especially out east. I moved there when I was 13 and I found that I could not make friends with almost anyone who was not white. I did make friends with one black family whom I still contact, but it is difficult and I don't know why. I think scars that deep take generations to heal.

Because some people are stuck in the past and/or jerks, while the rest of us have moved on to try to better things. If some others want to remain behind, so be it, they shouldn't be able to stop the rest of us from moving forward.

raciam still exists because of the attitudes of people. no one wants to get along or even speak to others and it's sad. then you have some that think they are better than others. but there are some sensible people out here.
