Bandwidth is measured in either kbps (kilobits/sec), mbps (Megabits/sec), gbps (Gigabits/sec).

While it is true what TM says taht kilo = 1000 in the Computer industry it has been accepted to represent the 1024 level. Thus
1024 bits = 1 Kbit
1024 kbits = 1 Mbit
1024 mbits = 1 Gbit
1024 gbits = 1 Tbit (terrabit)
Most of the IT industry accepts these terms and they will actually express for example 10MBits = 10000 KBits.

For transmissions 8 bits = 1 byte.

Bytes. Megabytes. Gigabytes. Trillian bytes
The kilo cannot be factored here is it is a standard for the 1000 ie 1k = 1000g.
1024 bytes=1megabyte. . There is a difference.

Bandwidth is expressed in kilobits or megabits per second.

If it helps at all, there are 8 bits in a byte.*

* slightly more, depending on transmission protocols.
