I'm trying out for two orchestras in about a month. I need serious help. I've only ever auditioned for baritone, never violin. Well, this is my first orchestra audition. If it were for baritone I'd be okay. But i'm afraid a little. Excited, but some what afraid. Can someone give me some tips how to stay calm and what to do and stuff.
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

Practice, practice, practice!

During each practice session, start by playing the tryout pieces very fast. Then play them progressively slower until you are playing them at the proper speed.

This should help you feel more confident that you can hit all the notes and play them with proper emphasis as well.

The three most important ways to relax are practice, practice, practice. Nothing is worse than auditioning for something for which you are not prepared. The fourth thing on the list is to breathe deeply. The fifth is to smile on the inside befoe you begin.
If you are having trouble being successful when you audition, maybe you are setting your sights a little too high. Sometimes experience with smaller community orchestras helps. It may also be a way of making contacts for bigger and better things. It's not always what you know, it is sometimes also who you know.

You might want to get a membership in your local musician's union, go to: www.afm.org
This will help you get some local work that will act as a good springboard for orchestra work........It is getting tougher to get auditions right now, but stick it out, it will be worth it........If you need more info, please contact me through Yahoo answers........Good luck in your endeavors :-)
