Everyone is correct. If you do not want to utilize a phone line high speed internet connection, your other options are either by getting internet through your local cable internet provider, investigate if any satellite options are available in your area (not recommended if you’re an online gamer) or visit free or pay WiFi hotspots.

The issue is that wireless internet is only available through a wireless access point (most commonly a router like Linksys or Belkin). The internet connection comes into your house, though the modem, and into the wireless router where the signal is distributed along a frequency of about 2.4 Ghz. (for the most common b and g standards) **the b standard is more susceptible to interference from household appliances that also use the same frequency.

If you are looking to have wireless internet at home, you will need to invest in some form of access point. Most people choose to get a wireless router because it is a hardware firewall for added home protection, it usually has at least four or five ports for wired networking, and they are readily available at your local best buy, comp USA, Wal-Mart or Target.

If you’re interested in free WiFi hotspots (places where you can access wireless internet), Panera Bread and Applebee’s are national chains that do not charge for access. Starbucks, Einstein Bros. and Barns & Noble are affiliated with one of the major cell phone providers and charge for monthly or limited use plans. I have also found that many city buildings and airports provide free internet access.

Hope this helps
