Are the space shuttles too old to be safe?

the space shuttles are over 30 years old. I would not want to drive cross country in a 1976 american car. why should our astronauts have to fly into space in old space ships?

If you had 50 mill to deck out your ol' jeep every time you went cross country, I think that you'd be ok.

Beacuse NASA doesn't have that much money to build new ones.
