I have a computer I'm adding memory to. I have used a grounding strap before, and I remember making it with some household materials, but it has been so long, I no longer have the instructions to make it.

turn off the computer, unplug the computer
remove the cover
sit down and don't get up again
ground yourself out by touching the metal computer case
open and remove the memory chip and install it
reassemble computer, plug in computer, boot computer
memory up grade is complete

Seems like two alligator clips attached to the ends of a piece of small guage wire would do the trick. If in doubt, a trip to the local Radio Shack might be revealing.
