Is it spelled "Bogeyman" or "Boogeyman"?

"Bogeyman" this to me sounds like someone impersonating Humprey Bogart.
"Boogieman" this is what KC and the Sunshine Band sang about.
"Boogerman" well, too rude to say what this brings to mind.

To me, the ONLY spelling for that thing under my bed is "Boogeyman".

it's slang, I think the 'correct' spelling would depend on the area of the country you're in... My dictionary lists boogeyman but also says bogeyman is a common variant.

I've seen both spellings, though the pronounciation always seems to be "oo", regardless of spelling.

um, its not really an important word so it has developed many different spellings throghout time. BUt I've always spellt it "boogyman"...so its more like whatever floats your boat.
