Why should they have to prove anything?
Maybe there are things they find lacking in the culture or something more attractive in other cultures. Not everyone has to love their own past culture. that could be how a new cutlure or subculture is created.

That maybe there are imperfections in the culture. No culture is perfect. I tend to hate my culture in some ways, but it doesn't mean there's something wrong with me, I think it shows a longing for change in your world for the better.
