A stranger came up to me and said:
"Excuse me ma'am, I needn't any money, I have some in my wallet. But I have sleep problems though, and I was wondering if you would pray for me tonight so that I could fall asleep?"
To which I kind of baffled an "ok"
He then said " thank you ma'am, my name is John, and I really appreciate your prayer"
Thanked me for my time and was on his way.
What do you think about this??? Is it weird, that I don't usually pray but have found myself periodically asking God to let John sleep tonight?

If a man ask you to pray for him, why not?
and ask God to give John rest and peace on his sleep ... God would do his work for John, and your prayer would do it..
He might see something in you.. we all have spiritual gifts and what others can't do, you might do better...
A troubled man would not come and ask for prayer if his intention is weird... as money won't buy him good night sleep..

It sounds like a "divine appointment" to me. You know, one of those encounters that most people would just say were weird or a coincidence but that people of faith would see the hand of God in working for unseen purposes. Maybe He sent this man to you because He hasn't been hearing from you often enough lately.
I had a divine encounter this Sunday morning. It was a little after 8am and I had my front door open while I was straightening up before going to church to drive a van over to the Veterans hospital to pick up some veterans in the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ward to bring them to church for my first time ever.
Suddenly I hear someone calling me from the doorway and I go out and see this very thin 70ish looking man with a shirt and a towel wrapped around where his pants should be. He's telling me that he's lost and asking if I can help him out. Now I live at the end of a long driveway in the middle of a residential block with many doors between mine and the street, but this guy shows up at my door.
Turns out that he's a Veteran who came out of the program I'm going to later on in the day and after I got him back to his hotel room several blocks away I see that he has a half empty vodka bottle on the table along with some hypodermic needles that he told be were for diabetes.
I've lived here for over a year, so what do you think the chances are that this man "just happened" to show up at my door like that? I think God is trying to get your attention too.

I think prayer is more powerful than we give it credit for. If there is a god out there listening which is up for debate since everyone has different views on this so I won't involve religion. I think prayers are good wishes and positive energy being radiated towards someone. Maybe he just found it comforting that someone would be thinking about him throughout their day since he may feel abandoned in this world.

Was he joking? There are some really spiritual people out there that do believe that the more people that pray for them the better they will be. So to some of us it might be a little odd but for others its perfectly normal. He might really have a sleeping problem or it could have been a joke that someones friends put him up to and wanted to see what you would say.

No dear this not weird but beautiful.I'll go with Martin's idea of Divine encounter but with a bit diff.explanation. It was a message from God or to make it better it was a provocation by God.He provoked you,he encouraged you to pray.If you study yourself honestly and deeply you'll find that you always beleived in God sincierly and you always wanted to pray to him.But for unknown reasons [but most probably due to your ego] you never prayed. And John as a messenger of God came to you for provoking, encouraging to start praying.Got it?? GodBless

Wierd Yes, But some how thats one of the sweetest & kindest acts i've heard of in a long time. I don't particularly believe in the same god that everyone else does, but I believe powers of prayers are strong. Prayers really have no ill intents

There are a lot of people in the world afraid to do anything for themselves or unaware of how to take care of themselves. They are the puny who beg for help from fantastic places and great powers that have been talked about in various forms of religion. Religion makes people puny and puny people pray for strength.
The guy wasn't weird but a victim of society.

Strange? Well..perhaps. The other side of it is is that John was reaching out to you..John is sad..never mind anything else..I think it's wonderful that you'll think of John. I will also hope that John is able to sleep. He was a human reaching out. I'm on his side and I think your decision is a good one. Sometimes people hurt so bad they need reassurance and the need to know someone cares.

Nobility in the middle ages would commission monks to pray for their souls around the clock.
You're getting scammed.

I don't think that it is strange....someone asked me the same thing once.....not to pray so he could sleep, but only to pray together for someone we new that needed it.......shortly after my mother who was lying on her death bed got a new liver that she so desperately needed.
