I have often noticed that places that have those double doors always keep one of them locked. The locked one always seems to be the one that I try to enter first. What could it possibly hurt to just unlock both doors so people could get in and out without having to wait on the people coming from the other direction, and having to try both doors before they find the one that is unlocked?

LOL! That is a great observation! That is something that my boyfriend and I discuss every time we use the "wrong" door. I think that they do it just to see everyone use the wrong door and get a laugh at other patrons expense. I actually don't know what the actual reason is for it, but I can't imagine that the fire marshal would be all to pleased about it. LOL

Your observation is very right.

What common explanation I get from a few such offices is that they intend to have narrower passage for in-out movement originally, but for special occasions, provision has been made for wider movement and the other locked side is opened then.
