you would have to heat the freon in a charging unit and add it to the high side...you can add it to the low side but you migh slug the compressor

Add it to the vapor (low pressure side, it's the fatter line). Never add it to the thin line, the liquid side, cause the liquid is under a higher pressure, and could shoot out the ac condenser, and into the jug of R-22, the jug will explode in your face. Before doing that make sure the outside, and inside coils are clean (the coil looks like a car radiator). When adding refrigerant, only open the valve on the jug for a few seconds, then shut it, and see what the gages read. The ideal suction pressure should be 68.5 psi. The head pressure depends on the outside temperature when charging. If you really aren't trained in ac, you could do damage to yourself or the unit (besides the fact you have to be licensed to work on a ac unit).
