I dont feel it necessary to address each individual reply, as it seems they share a similar theme but I hope this will address the main issues:

1. We are celebrating our freedom from the British. Answer: The Commonwealth countrys seem to be far more free thinking and living than we are. Canada or Australia for instance seem like paradise compared to America

2. I should be thankful that my countryman are dying on a daily basis for a War that has nothing to do with American liberty. I have served my country by the way.

3.I should go and live in Iraq and see how a lack of freedom feels. Answer: I thought we had brought freedom to Iraq. Or was the war about oil?

4.I should go and live in another country before I complain. Answer: I have lived in 3 other countries for a total of 7 years, and have found American freedom to be the least transparent and liberating.

5.If I dont like it I should get out: I dont and I am. Enjoy your so called freedom you ignorant fools.

What is sad about what you say is that many believe this way. Everything you have, I have, we have, has been paid for by the blood of our fathers and father's fathers and so on. Liberty always comes with a price and usually that price is paid in blood and death. Unfortunately wars are filled with death and things happen that are not very pretty but that's the cost of freedom. If nothing other than this celebrate that you have the ability to get on the Internet and voice your opinion for even that freedom was because many went to war. Independence day could have just as well been July 2nd for that's when the actual Declaration was conceived and voted upon or in August when most of the signatures were placed upon that document. You may not like the current political climate in the United States but celebrate the fact that in 2008 we can change it if enough of us want to. Do we really have anything to celebrate? I vote for Certainly!

We have a lot to celebrate. Your forefathers died to give you the freedom to say such a stupid thing. You should be ashamed. If our forefathers had not declared independence and fought the battle to become a nation, we might be a colony of the British Crown and you would be required to speak the queen's english. Or parts of the US could have been taken over by the french and spanish, which would have made us a colony of theirs and their kookie socialist ideas. You could wait till you die for medical care under either nation's socialist health care system. You have the freedom to say the dumb things you say because of July 4.

It's a time to celebrate our freedom, the birth of our country. And as for the war; as much of a waste as it is we need to remember the brave men and women over there protecting our freedom right now.

It's all about the Benjamin's. America will celebrate anything just to make a buck. It's ridiculous. After the 4th of July they start pushing Christmas as if you have to buy something for someone who really doesn't need it! Almost everyone has forgotten the true meaning of Christmas! We are a brainwashed society.

How can you ask such a thing? There are men and women over in Irag fighting for us to have the freedoms we have and enable us to celebrate this great country we live in. If you don't think it is worth it to celebrate- the door is always open - get out...

I am proud to be an American, although I do think that it's a shame that our pride has somewhat turned into arrogance...

We have a rich history and we would do well to remember the struggles that we've prevailed in, the sacrifices made and the cost of freedom.

Independence day is not about just a current affair alone, or for that matter not the source of original event alone too. With a deeper understanding, it is a day of re-asserting our fundamental right to live in dignity befitting a human birth, and in doing so, recognizing mutual rights to Independence.

Yes, we can celebrate the fact that you can ask this dumb-*** question while living with the freedom to do many, many things. We live in the most free country in the world and you have the nerve to ask your question? In some other countries, you'd get your *** kicked, shot at, or killed for that. If you are unhappy here in the USA, you are more than welcome to leave at any time. Thanks!

We're celebrating our independence from the British!

It's a shame rebellions are harder to start up these days, people are too lazy to get up. They'd rather sit behind a computer and blog and complain about their problems rather than actually DOING something about it.
