Yes, I can. It does have to do with genetics. Tongue curling is a dominant trait, whereas not being able to curl is recessive. You can determine what your family history for genetics is by making a pedigree, and using it to construct a punnett square to develop predictions on what two people making a child together would pass down to their offspring, and what the genotypes and phenotypes of them would be.

Here's an article that indicates it might not be as simple as a single gene. If it were, then identical twins would always share the tongue rolling ability (or lack thereof):

It could be that the capacity for tongue rolling is hereditary, but the skill is learned:

When I first tried to roll my tongue as a kid, I couldn't, but after a bit of practice, I was able to. So that lends support to the theory that it is at least partially a learned skill.

Yes it's a gene though I don't think it necessarily have to be passed down directly from your parent. I can curl my tongue and make it touch the back of my throat and my brothers can't. One of them even had a lisp because his tongue was too short.

I don't know. Up until I was about 9 I could not curl my tongue, but now I can. I did not practice curling my tongue cuz it never bothered me that I couldn't curl my tongue, while everyone else in my family could, but one day I tried it and I did it. So I do not know.

Yes, there is a gene that codes for tongue curling. There are also that do not posses that gene.

No, not a gene. I could not but was taught how by my speech therapist as a 9 year old.

Also you can't whistle if you can't roll your tough, easy test. My speech therapist taught me how to whistle by teaching me to roll my tongue.

I also have 3 brothers and 3 sisters and half of us had to be taught how.
