i live in texas too!the safest way to keep it green is to use a miracle grow feeder! that way you just dump a bag of miracle grow in the feeder and water the lawn with it! i do it once a week!miracle grow is safe to use once a week and is guaranteed not to burn any plants!as long as you use it as directed!the feeder packs come prepackaged so all you have to do is put it in the feeder and hook the feeder up to the water hose and water your lawn and/or garden or plants!

I'm right above you in Oklahoma, and i don't like watering either. i get some Atwood's brand fertilizer and spread it once a month. i water once after spreading it and my lawn stays super green.

Contact your local extension service. They can give you good advice based on the type of grass you have, your soil conditions, etc.
