Seattle actually joined the NFC first in 1976 (when the league added them and Tampa Bay together), being placed in the NFC West. The Seahawks moved to the AFC West in 1977 (both teams' schedules for the first two years had them playing everyone in their conference once, and each other) and stayed there until 2002, when they moved to the NFC West again.
