You "lose" a game. A large pair of pants would be "loose" around your waist.

I have the same question at times, and when it is mentioned, people become so bloody irritated over it. It seems as though the English language is nothing more than a passing fancy to some, an encumberance to others.
Granted, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to 98% of the English language, and it IS one of the most difficult languages to learn.
However, if one chooses to learn a language, one should also endeavor to learn the intricacies of that language to the best of their ability, and to never halt that yearning to perfect oneself linguistically and grammatically.

Good One! I don't know the answer but admit I have the same problem. Everytime I use the word I have to go through this little mental reminder game to get it right.
