What great effect has beef had on culture?

Cows may seem innocuous but if humans continue to cut down rain forest to create pasture for cows to graze (like they do in Brazil every day) eventually the amount of methane the cows fart out and the oxygen producing forests will be out of balance to such an extent that it may well change the balance of gasses that we breathe, the very nature of our atmosphere may be damaged beyond repair. It would be sooo ironic if cattle ended up being mankind's downfall.
