I once saw some wildlife film footage, of a black bear and a mountain lion fighting, a mountain lion is pretty close to a puma. The mountain lion was protecting her young from the black bear. It was a pretty intense fight, but in the end, the mountain lion sent the black bear running for its life. I once saw saw footage of a panther taking on a 25 foot anaconda. The panther turned the anaconda into its dinner. Cats are really incredibly impressive fighters.

No contest, the black bear would definatly win this. The puma, while it does have a speed advantage, is smaller, lighter, less powerful, andnot good at one on one combat. The puma has made a name for itself as a stealth predator, not for a brute strength killer. Bears, despite seeming very lumbersome can actually beat a horse in the quarter mile. They are no push overs. If the puma was as big as the bear then it can go either way, but an adult of both species...I give it to the bear hands down. The thickness of the coat on the bear would protect it from anything the puma's got, the only exposed area on it is on the nose, and when it is standing 7 feet off the ground, it will be quite a challenge for the cougar to inflict much damage. If anyone says its the cougar, then they might have to review their animal notes, come on, there is no way a puma could beat a healthy bear.

Most definitely the puma would win. They are lower to the ground, so they don't get unbalanced easily, they are much quicker than the bear, they are more lean and flexible and have better reflexes, so they can block attacks better, and they have better eyesight, so they can see attacks that are coming at them. Also, if it was a fight during the night, the puma has the advantage of night vision, whereas the bear would be half blind. Plus, pumas can be extremely quiet, so they can sneak up behind the bear. To be fair, the bear has some advantages, but only 2: they have more mass/brute force, and sometimes desperation is on their side, so they can hold out a little longer.

A puma would certainly win that fight...the number one reason is because a puma can attack at speeds of up to, but not limited to 35 mph. This actually knocks their prey out before they know that they are being eaten.

Chuck Norris would kill them both, make a rug out of the bear and have Puma shoes make him some sneakers with the puma.

both r farly equal in weight but the puma would be more agile even though the bear could wound the puma mortally the puma would walk away the victor and die at a later time because of its wounds

Both are equally matched, so it really depends on who is more desperate to win. For example, a mother protecting her young will be more desperate to win, like in this example:

But if both are desperate to win, I'd put my money on the bear to win since it's stronger and has more stamina than a puma.
