things have not worked out. We are not on speaking terms. Should I just mime my own business or put up with the silent treatment. Everyone else speaks well of him. Our relationship has become quite taxing. Oh well, I suppose those our the breaks. I've asked to end our partnership, but he won't hear of it. What should I do?

Sounds to me like this guy is playing charades while you freeze your assets. It cannot be said, in this case, silence is golden. Don't put a gag on what is aloud and disallowed. That should account for any discrepancies and you could reach a mutual agreement. This should clear the books in a GIFI.

In trade terms, a silent partner does not mean a mute. Silent partner denotes that you should have such a partner, who can invest his part of the share of capital in to the business but he will have nothing to do with the trading, while he would be entitled to the share of profit or loss of the firm as per the percentage fixed.

About your problem, how to get rid of the existing partner, the oly altetrnative is to dissolve the firm, get your share of the assets and open a new business separately, or get rid of him by paying him heavily, if you don't want to disown the firm having a goodwill.

I think a mime would be an excellent choice! When in doubt, go with a MIME is what I always say.
