Any other backround the story would have been dropped within 12 hours of opening the case. And don't forget if they were middle or lower class people then the story wouldn't have even aired in the first place.

I am a white woman. I'm am sorry and disgusted to say that I truly believe they would not have. It's a sad, sad reflection of society today. Currently - in Portland, Maine - there is a young black woman missing. I have yet to hear a word about it on the news. The only reason I know about it is because I saw a flyer stapled to a telephone pole. Yet, a young white woman went missing a couple years ago from the same area and her photo was all over the news and the newspapers. There were interviews with family and friends. I think this is great - for her - but what about the other girl?? Doesn't she deserve the same??

Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped by a man who brainwashed her, Natalie Holloway is a young girl missing in another country, and Jon Benet Ramsey was a child pageant contestant who was brutally murdered! I don't believe it's the girls' color that drew national media attention, but the severity and mystery of each case.

Of course not. Blonde sells. African-American girls are missing from Detroit and any other American city every day and the American media cares not one whit.

It is a sad commentary on our media and the people who watch it. It is also a commentary on us, as the media consultants will tell you that (correctly or not) shows about blonde missing teens get huge ratings. And that's why they are on TV all the time.

A child is a child no matter the color. Are you less concerned for them because they are white?

I doubt it. You rarely hear about females of other races UNTIL they are confirmed dead. Sad because every person needs that kind of recognition especially when we don't know where they are.
