You cannot just go to device manager and disable it, I can do that to my new sound card though. The one with the 3 year old quit working and I added a new sound card. Now i think it slows my computer down quite a bit.
There are other problems too, like not being able to get yahoo to come up from the browser. I must go to google and then search for yahoo and click on link.
Thanks for your help, one ol rancher who not to tech savy

butchell has the right answer.

You need to enter the bios while the machine is booting (POST'ing) but before it starts to load windows. On some machines this is by tapping F1 or F2 or del while it's first booting. However your particular machine may use a different key (consult the manual).

There should be a section in the bios (although it may be somewhat buried) regarding onboard devices. Set the sound to disable. That should do it

When you turn your computer on, you should see the EMachines screen and somewhere on that screen you'll see (or another key) for Setup. Press the specified key a few times and it should enter a text only mode. Look around in Setup for Integrated Devices or Integrated Peripherals and see if you can find Integrated Audio (or Sound) and disable it there. BE CAREFUL NOT TO CHANGE ANYTHING BUT THE SOUND!!!!!

During the inital start up (when you first turn your computer on) press the DEL or DELETE key (it's just above the arrow keys). Use the system BIOS to disable the built-in sound.

i think spyware/ad-aware or virus is responsible for the slow-down of your computer.....you have to run series of scans use ad-aware, ccleaner, spybot and AVG you can download them at www.download.com
