As a parent you are in the seat of control in your home. Here is somethings to consider:
1. Locking the computer with a password that only you know for each account. Only letting her on between blah, blah and blah, blah time and then promply locking the computer after her use.
2.Read her messanger archives once or 5 times a week and do not let her know how you are able to the messeger archive is under contracts and keep track on the types of people and conversations your child is having with people.
3. Make her get your promision before she adds anyone to her contact list. If this was AOL you could lock certain people and sites away from her I don't know if yahoo has that feature.
4. Talk to your daughter and let her know that things are not safe nor have they really ever been safe for young children in the world.
5. Just don't rely on Yahoo.Answers do some research about computer securtiy measures and start keeping close monitoring on your child both at home and away from home. Ask her who(Who are you going with, Who is all going with you, who will be there, and who is those children's parents.)Where(where are you going, where is this place located, where is some contact information, where will you be, where can I pick you up if need be.)when(when are you coming back and etc.) There is no such thing as asking too much information and even then if not enough is given telling her no you don't feel comfortable with her leaving.
Good luck to you and I hope I answered at least part of your question.

You should make up a screen name that sounds like a guy that is her age or a little older and ask her to meet somewhere. Have one of your friends that she doesn't know try to grab her and take her somewhere or something horrible along those lines that some predator would do. Once she gets really, really scared out of her mind then stop and tell her. She'll never forget it.
Or, take her to meet some family that has had their daughter kidnapped by some internet predator, so she can see how sad it can be that they died. Also, someone that has been raped, but is still alive, so they can tell about how awful it was.
Do something fast before it is too late. Good luck!

It is sad to say that in today's world any parent who cares enough to try to protect their children is considered strange.
The best suggestion I can offer you is to keep on caring and loving and be willing to get under her skin.
Always remember you are her parent and not her friend. She has lots of friends already but needs you to be a parent.
If need be remove from the home the computer completely.
Having it and not being able to control the use is worse than not having it at all.
There are alot or easy to use programs out there you can track Every key stroke that they type on the computer and they do not have to know you are doing it. That way you can watch when you are not there to see everything.

Take her back to where you came from and beat her. Next take her to the police station and tell them your problem. A female officer will give her detailed info about real predators. Don't try to play a trick on her because it may backfire. Be honest about the dangers. Take away those privileges from her. SHe should not be on the internet if she can not be trusted. (12 is too young for internet use unsupervised.)

take her computer...easy solution to a hard problem. Take control of her life she is 12 years old not 18 !!!! Be a parent not a cool friend that gives her what she wants. You said you can't spank her so take what you want of hers and let her deal without for once!!! Sure she could go to a friend's house to do it but if she can't leave the house the there is no threat of her getting on line is gone.

She won't wake up and see it because she is 12. Take away her internet priveleges when you catch her lying to you about what she is doing on the internet.
