Do you watch a lot of t.v. before you put him to bed? While researching effects of video games on childhood behavior and academic performance, I ran into a study that focused on television/games and how they can stimulate the brain to the point that children to not get the sleep/rest they need. I know your child is young, but this can have an impact on infants as well. The teething is probably the main culpret. My advice, before bed, give him a soothing bath, or read to him. For the teething, there are several products out that you can apply to his gums to soothe them as well.

13 months... oh my.. precious moments...
teething is most likely the reason. Try rubbing some baby orajel on his gums before bedtime. And how does he go to sleep? I mean does he just fall asleep himself? Try reading to him or whispering nice things to him. Try to cradle him while he goes to sleep. He could be having a bad dream. Babys dream. And depending on what he's watching or what he is drinking before bed, Could be the cause of the disterbed sleep patterns.
Give him a small bottle of slightly warm milk and talk to him or rock him back and fourth until he falls asleep. That will comfort him and let him know that you are not going anywhere.
Babys get scared of loosing their mom. And for him to know that you are right there, he will feel more at ease to go to sleep.
Baby orajel
warm milk
rocking or talking lightly.
(try it)

Teething is probably it, try pain reliever before bedtime. I know mine were up alot when they were teething. Also, this sounds bad I know......but if you go in every time he cries it could be for attention. If you know he is okay, wait a while before going in and see if he will go back to sleep his self. I had a hard time with that one, but once my daughter learned to go back to sleep on her own she slept through the night......and yes she was almost two, told you I had a hard time with it LOL

he's cutting his eye teeth, huh? I went through this last month when my son was 13 months old. Before he goes to sleep give him tylenol for the pain or baby orejel, nighttime relief. When the teeth break through, everything will be ok. Hang in there!

it could be his teeth or maybe he becomes to warm or cold or maybe a combination of a few things. I'm not recommending this at all, but when i was that age and my teeth were hurting, my mom would dab her finger in whisky and rum my gums.
And no i'm not an alcoholic at all today.
