They do because it's what they can get their hands on easily when suicidal. Unfortunately those that try to commit suicide by this method will in fact die if not treated soon after ingestion of an overdose, but not in a very pretty manner. Death by Paracetamol/Acetaminophen overdose takes many extremely painful days. If you've never seen someone die from acetaminophen toxicity then count your blessings. There is nothing worse than getting a call for a teenager that ingested a large quantity of acetaminophen 1 or 2 days before they actually called 911. The odds of them being alive in 2 weeks are slim to none, and they will wish they were dead long before that.

If it's just para. without codeine, then they just must be addressing chronic pain (real or perceived)... even as a non-narc, it's habit forming... sort of. Ppl w/high blood pres. get headaches, and eat para. If it's Para w/codeine, then they want the pain releif (or buzz) from the narcotic codeine. I stopped taking Para. w/codeine, because the acetominophen is bad for the liver. I take straight codeine now, 30mG stuff called DF-118. It's easy to get, and cheap. 4 are close to an OXY... and for a fraction of the cost. They are somewhat addictive, though. I've been lucky, however, as I've been taking them for about 20 years without getting 'hooked'! ;) Neuro. effect is sedation, respiratory slowness, euphoria, drowsiness, hyper-sensitivity (itching), and the worst one... constipation (at higher doses).

its cheap, easily attained narcotics. Its a mild sedative that numbs the pain recepticals in the brain thus releasing a very mild euphoric sensation in your head convincing you, you are ok. It is this feeling that urges people to take more than they really need.
