I'm often carried away by what they show in movies.. the ROMANCE, the GRAND BALLROOMS, the GENTLEMEN.. and ladies are so "LADY"LY, the exaggerated MANNERISM... and none the least, the beautiful ARCHITECTURE.

But of course I'm gonna get hit by others - coz there were OPPRESION too, extreme POVERTY, CORUPTION too, then what about the BEGGARS and glorified PROSTITUTION....., ohhh the EPIDEMIC and CONTAMINATION, and let's not start on lack of proper HYGIENE!

Victorian times were a trial to live thru. There were so many rules to follow. If you chose not to people could be alienated from their family and there community. Everything had a correct way it was to be done.

During Victorian times there were still debtors prision where you could go to goal for nonpayment and poor houses that were the next thing to a prision.

The fancy dress balls and the military parades were only of the nobility by birth. It was a terrible time to be a common person. Land was held and rented to peasents who worked the land on the word or the landowner who was at least gentry.

This was an intresting time in history but it woud not have been a good time to be alive.

Well they seemed kinda repressed but under that starched exterior was some wild stuff. Oscar Wilde for one. They brought us the Christmas tree and Halloween parties. Queen Victoria was something else. So I'm glad they existed but I'm also glad I was born now and not then.

Very Conservative folks, Pretty uptight about most things. Freud would have had a ball with these folks.

I think they were a strong lot...no toilet paper... those heavy clothes and washing them maybe once a year, and no deodorant...running water? I just can't imagine....no TV, computers, most of them couldn't even read... I'm glad that we don't live in those days.....

They were excessively formal, moralistic, and hypocritical. Of course, it's easy for us to be critical, since we're not products of that time period.

Well, they're all dead, but that's more a statement of fact than it is an opinion...
