Looking back, will we cringe over the Iraq war the way we do with Bell Bottoms and Platform Shoes. Will our children ask "What were you thinking", the way Germany's youth do today? Will students learn about the Iraq war the same way they do about the Salem Witch Hunts? Please give articulate, intelligent answers. No one liners. Thanks

I think it already is very embarrassing. People all around the world are aghast at the injustice taking place. We are not so fooled by propaganda as we were before. What is happening in Iraq is pure greed, and as long as this occupation in Iraq continues, the anger around the world will rise. The Bush Administration has made America and Americans so unpopular, very soon we will be unwelcome in other parts of the world. I already see this happening in the service industry. As soon as you mention that you're American to a foreign Waiter, be prepared for some veiled hostility. I know I'm getting off topic here, but America's Image is being dragged through the mud by its own leaders.

The Iraqis know nothing but cringing. They would have been far better off just handing over the oil to the Bush gang without a fight. The US is using their oil money to keep the pot boiling as a distraction.

Let's do some math. Something like 1.8 million barrels of oil is pumped out of Irag a day, at $70 a barrel. That's $126 million a day. That's not per week or month, that's per day. Have we heard anything about where all that money goes? Not a peep. It sure isn't getting to the Iraqi on the street, they only have 3 or 4 hours of electricity a day, they can't even keep fresh milk.

I predict the US will generate excuses to be there until all the oil is gone in that region, then instantly disappear.

Yep, I put it right up there with Vietnam. Unnecessary evil. Add having Bush has the president, that would be mighty embarrassing to look back in history on as well, how would Americans explain to their kids/grand kids that they elected (well not properly but he got in through dodginess), this man to lead the US, if not the world.

Seriously though, I think everyone has something to be embarrassed about their history. My ancestors were sent here as convicts, then wiped out the Aboriginal people. Not particularly proud of that fact at all. Plus we have a puppet as a Prime Minister at the moment who follows whatever Bush does. And we still won't cut the apron strings from the Queen, more embarrassment. I don't think it will ever end, there will always be something to not be so proud of unfortunately.

The war in Iraq is already an embarrassing moment in history. It was a war based on a lie and we all knew, and the whole sorry mess has blown up in America and U.K faces. If you think for one minute the history books in America will ever reflex the truth -no way history will be written the way they see it which will be as far removed from the truth as can be.Thank god the rest of the world dose know.

Yes, it already is. Our children will not ask about the Iraq was, the down side of us pulling out Iraq will not be in the league of losing ww2. History is rarely written in a way that makes us (USA) look like the bad guy. In fact it will not even be close to Vietnam. More like the Korean war as far as history will concerned. As for bell bottoms ; they will be back.

They will judge the war on based by it's effects. We can't honestly say it's a success or failure till it's over, which at the moment may look like never. But say if we did something like i don't know make Iraq part of the U.S. History will say that it was the most intelligent purposeful war America ever fought in. Time has a way of glorifying villainy

It all depends upon how the Iraqui "war" is presented by the people who runn News Media. Very few people will have first-hand knowledge of what has gone on and is going on, they have to depend upoon the world's news media to learn those things. If the news people are unbiased and present just the facts, then the people of the world will determine for themselves what the "Iraqui-war" was about and its value to the world.

Unfortunately, the news-people of the world happen to be people who see things from a personal viewpoint and they write the news that way. We have to read both sides of every report in order to get something approaching reality.

Hopefully, the world will be able to survive in spite of the views of the "story-telling news folks"

I think you have your tense messed up -- it already *is* an embarrassing moment, and most of us already cringe over it. But not like bell bottoms and platform shoes -- those were just fads that went out of style. We cringe for the loss of life of both our brave soldiers and Iraqis, all for nothing. That's a bit more grave than bad fashion...

I wouldn't compare it to the Salem Witch Trials, but rather the Viet Nam War or Gulf War I.
