No! Having Rudy Gay AND Tracey McGrady would have been amazing. They blew it! Battier will not make a differance.

Absolutely. The Rockets are not a team with a large window of opportunity to win. Rudy Gay is not all that spectacular. Yes, he is lanky, explosive, a great scorer, and an even greater basketball "athlete", however I do recall that Stromile Swift and Darius Miles received the same reputation on draft night. Gay is not a winner and his defense is only a product of playing tiny unathletic wings in college, this is not the case in the NBA. Shane Battier is a solid 10-15 ppg scorer, along with 7-10 boards a night. Battier also takes the toughest defensive duties and is known to handle them pretty well. Don't mistake Memphis's shortcomings as Battier's problem, Battier is an excellent basketball IQ, something this team has been lacking. If you remember, a few years ago we traded two solid players on draft night for a high prospect (Eddie Griffin) and we were ecstatic. Now, we did the opposite in getting Shane Battier, and we are crying about it? relax houston, you did yourself a favor, if you want a superstar, wait until next year to make your move, the draft will be thicker. The TMac and Yao tandem is enough for the bulk of the scoring, it's just a matter of adding pieces around them to get the job done. Thank God Stromile is gone too...

They may have screwed up, but the Rockets are in a win it now mode. Shane Battier is a good defender that JVG wants, and can play a bit of Power Forward. He can also hit the outside hump shot, which spreads the floor for Mac and Yao.

I think they screwed this one up. Shane Battier is good, don't get me wrong I mean he did get into the NBA but I don't think he will make as big of an impact as Rudy Gay would have had in years to come.

no, they messed up tremendously with this move...............rudy gay was the piece of athleticism that they needed to spread the floor...........dont get me wrong, shane battier is a decent player in his own right, but i would have kept gay..........he's a player of the future
