You are assuming that a lot of people actually have those views. Mostly, those are the perceptions which are fomented by the media to sell advertising and papers. Most people have some mixed views, but mixed views don't work well in polling statistics. If, by some miracle, the media actually put the things that people think out in the open, then there wouldn't be any viable candidates to collect campaign money. Campaign money comes from corporations who buy advertising. Can't have things all muddied up if you want to compare ratings when selling your airtime now, can you?

Ummm....your question seems a bit skewed. Liberals (the opposite of Republicans) believe in a "living" Constitution. One that changes according to their opinions and the opinions of other countries. (If you don't believe me read some of the decisions to come out of the supreme court where international law was cited as a consideration in the judgment.
There is actually a political group more to the right of the Republicans called Constitutionalists these people are true pro-constitution. They believe in following the Constitution as it is written, not as others would like it to be.

It is that polarized, I believe. Just look at the rhetoric and how high emotions ran during the last presidential campaign, and the level of emotion has not even come down yet. I have never seen this nation so divided.
I suspect that politicians and biased media have had the largest hand in tearing our country apart like this, in a "divide and conquer" strategy. It renders all of our votes less meaningful, when everyone is solidly in their own little camp, and can't agree on anything enough to join forces and elect someone the people want. Instead, we get whoever the powers that be decided in a smoke-filled room to put in office.

I think there are many people in the middle- but they aren't that passionate that they make a voice for themselves. I also think that I hear from a large group that are spiritual and liberal. I may get a biassed opinion, as most of my friends are from graduate school or doctors that I work with. I think we hear the polarized voice because that is what the media chooses to present. Like all causes, the radical is what gets the voice. Otherwise, the media doesn't pay attention.

Yes!!! but they speak with much quieter voices, that get completely washed out in the polarized rhetoric that gets picked up by the media, or the 10% extremists that scream the loudest. I am a republican, I am for gay marriage, I am pro choice, I am pro anti-illegal immigration, I am for sound and proactive action against terrorists. Have faith though, I believe that we will come back to equilibrium, with time we will come up with a Congress and white house that can actually work together and get something accomplished. I doubt that it will be able to happen with the current administration unfortunately, but I think it will happen. Our country needs a revolution, though I think it will be a peaceful one. Have faith in our country, perhaps I'm naive, but as a prior service member and someone with alot of faith in our country, but this will current environment will not be the case for ever.
