Could be a SoCal thing. I've found that the personality traits you are talking about are pretty common in the LA crowd.

I grew up on the West Coast first, then the East Coast (NE in my teen years, SE currently). My perspective is the opposite.
East Coasters tend to be rude, obnoxious and always want to pick a fight. Especially those in the Greater NYC, Philly and NJ areas.
So Cali folk are usually laid back and relaxed... but, of course there are areas this is not true... such as the poorer sections of the city.
For example: I visited So Cali in June/July of 2001 (just before 9/11). I only had a $20.00 bill on hand and needed to take the bus. The bus Driver couldn't change the bill, and I would have had to gotten off. But, of the ten people on the bus, 9 of them offered to pay the fair so I wouldn't have to wait for the next bus. I think the 10th person didn't speak English (she was Mexican) so may not have realized I needed help.
In the East Coast, you may get only ONE person that generous (usually me as I am still a So Cali at heart. no disrespect intended... just a bit of humor). But, in many areas, the riders just might take your $20 and bodily kick you off the bus (it has happened in NJ).

I'm originally from Simi Valley, about 20 miles NW of Hollywood. I'm not a snobby person by any means. I've known a few snobs and it comes down to money. The more you have the snobbier you are. The L.A. area is also a fast-paced place. If you can't keep up then you shouldn't be there. I love southern CA and I will go back there eventually. Right now I live in Virginia and it's slow paced and people take their sweet a$$ time for everything. People are definitely nicer here but for crying out loud. The gas is on the right, THE RIGHT!

By west coast do you mean Cali? Now being a west coaster from the east I find it to be way more relaxed and people seem to have more of a laid back attitude on the west coast. But then again I also don't live in California. I'm not sure how it is there.

your not wrong. I was born and raised in California and all I can say is the attitudes and the fast pace kill what little personality you have. Growing up with so much violence around you, you learn very early not to trust people. There you get the attitude. I now live in WI and it is a pleasure to sit in a bar or walk down a street and talk to people without being afraid of getting shot!

That's funny...I heard that it's the east coasters that are the snobby ones.
Personally, I think snobby people may be found anywhere

So cal and nor cal are two different worlds. I hate to make generalizations but... you might find warmer people north of Sacramento.

Maybe it's because California has a low budget for education? And please don't make such generalisations. Not everyone's snobby.
