Look, I am a trumpet player AND I smoke! As far as I am concerned, I know that smoking is a health risk and I do smoke cloves from time to time. But let me tell you honestly, unless you chain smoke for hours at a time a day you are not putting yourself at serious risk. You are experiencing second hand smoke and unless your working in an unvented closed room for hours on end.

You know this is sort of ironic. Back in the sixties and seventies, there was so much propoganda for ciggarette smoking, so alot of people jumped on the band wagon and started smoking. That is how the tobacco companies hooked ya. Today there is the same amount of propoganda for smoking then as is for non-smoking today. And again people have jumped on the bandwagon for the non-smoking campaign.

As I see it, all this comes down to self control. If you drink too much alcohol all day long, you will become an alcoholic and increase your chance of dying from some alcohol related disease. Same with smoking. If you smoke responsibly and not have it run your life, then you will be fine.

OH! sorry back to your question. Okay, the deal about clove cigarettes is that they contain cloves in the tobacco, which, when smoked, does not create the same kind of chemical/afterburn material as tobacco. So you are left with bits and pieces of cloves. It is like having "fiberglass" stuck in your lungs, but that is only from smoking it. Not inhaling the smoke from it. (there is a difference) Your trumpet paying ability will not decrease from second hand smoke unless your in it night and day. In that case you should take breaks often and walk outside to get fresh air.

The biggest problem with clove cigarettes is that the clove oil is an anesthetic, so you inhale deeper.

clove cigarrettes are just as harmful as normal cigarrettes, so good luck with that.
