I think you make a very valid point. I would like to make a counter point though...
Instead of wasting our time on YA shouldn't we be worried about trying to change the world?

As seen in the variety of answers thus far, the question of God's existence (whether real or not, what "He" wants, etc...) is in itself an issue that affects society. Sept. 11th; Abortion; Gay Marriage; the birth of our country; the tie btwn God and social issues goes all the way back through the Crusades. So, do I personally feel that we should seek knowledge in God's existence? Yes. But keep in mind that knowledge is best gained through an OBJECTIVE manner- as subjective (individual, emotion driven) "knowledge" is also called self-righteousness- And that is indeed where many of our social issues stem from.

I see where you are coming from because it is hard to focus on the next stage of our lives like after death when there is not even any proof that there is something after our life here so why not do what we can now. That is what I am facing right now. I think we should seek knowledge about God to help us with the issues we face today. Or, if you choose to not look to God, look to the basic parts of religion as morals or values you can use to better society today...I don't know if that makes sense or not to you because I don't know how to word it. I believe we should deal with the here and now and take some of what has come from religion along with us to help us make the hard choices or to give us more reason to help people and be kind. The issues of today could be solved if we stopped trying to force all-encompassing "rules" on people because not everyone is the same. I hate blanket laws and such that you can find in the most primary of places such as school. People learn differently, people need different things, people like different things...stop trying to force everyone to conform to the same set of ideals if they don't wish to. Let everyone live their own life.

If we do not have God's wisdom and knowledge, we are unable to address issues that affect society and how to solve them.
Unfortunately, that's why society is in the predicament we're in because we are leaving God out of the equation. In God we trust is on our currency and so on, but it is just a clique now a days. Until we get back to the basics, which includes God and his morals, we are headed for destruction.
I pray you find what you're seeking.

It's important to seek God if God tells us to. If God is the creator and ruler, then we should do what he says. The real question is, has God told us to seek him. I believe Jesus Christ has made this clear. We are to seek God's mercy and forgiveness in the short time we have before we die. In seeking God we find the ultimate solution to all of life's problems - we find a future hope - a new heavens and a new earth with God. This doesn't mean we shouldn't be concerned with loving people and helping people now. Helping others and seeking God are not mutually exclusive - on the contrary! Knowing God and loving your neighbour should go hand in hand - at least, according to Jesus. And those who claim that speaking like this is forcing ones beliefs on another and therefore shouldn't be allowed, have already just attempted to force their own beliefs on another as well!

Well, it is. I will tell you, the only. ONLY way you can get into heaven is being saved. (Excepting Jesus died for us and ask him into your heart). When you are saved. You have a hunger to learn. Alot of non-christian people tell me. "I dont care if I go to hell, earth is hell"...I laugh. Hell is beyond anything you think. Now, about issues that effect society. In the bible it says Ask and you will receive. You cant just ask. You have to BELEIVE he will do what you ask. And not Doubt even the slightest bit. In the bible it also says, 2 christians praying together to ask, and both have faith is like a miracle. You want the issues resolved ask God. He made us. I heard a story once....just a small little joke...
A man said to God "God we have finally figured out how to make people, and you have no athority over it because you didnt help make it." God said "Oh really? How? Show me." The man reached down and grabbed for soil to form a man. God said "No way, Ge your own soil." No matter what we do, God is somewhere in the mixture. He doesnt ALLOW bad things to happen. He just says he will be there with us when we walk through it. In revelation, in the bible. It talks about what it will be like right before he comes back for the rapture. Guess what?...Read it, cuz we are going through it. In the bible it says NO SIN will get into heaven. As long as you are saved. The last breath in you, all you have to do is ask for forgivness, and He will forgive you. We dont need to worry about how to solve these issues. God will tell us how if we have faith and are very close to him.

I don't know what to say. You just said it all.
Yes, we should be more worried about what issues effect society than finding "God". I think some people are so afraid of the inevitable, death, that they focus on nothing but a contrived theory of an afterlife. In the meantime the real life they are living just whizzes by. The real problems in society won't be addressed by these same people.
But, to each their own. That's the bottom line.

Life is about finding a harmony. That harmony must hold both excitement about the supernatural and a deep concern for what you have in front of you (reality, you might say).
If there is some ultra caring supernatural force and I let my neighbor die, while I am off soul searching. I have acted wrongly against that god.
If, however, there is no caring supernatural force and I spend my time chasing him around, ignoring the present, then later (supposing that I have a chance to find out) I would have wasted the time I had and taken part in the ruin of others' times too.
Balance is key.

Yes...we should be letting the supernatural take care of the supernatural & what not...and let us worry and concentrate on the issues we can handle-which need to be dealt with(hunger, poverty, crime, the homeless & needy, development & growth, pollution, etc).
There is no point in arguing whether or not God exists...we could be doing eachother some good by putting aside our beliefs and working together for the greater cause & needs(in reference to society)...instead of trying to prove eachother wrong.
It can be as simple as "do you believe in God...yes...no...maybe so...okay,whatever..?"Now lets go about our business...enough with the force feeding & brainwashing. It shouldn't matter whether one is a believer of any particular religion,an Atheist,or Antagonist-that's fine and dandy...what's more important to this world-stop hating on one another and unite!

For me it is not important. I have faith in the will of my God to lead me, instead of my own will. For example, my will would be to remove all the stingers of bees, or easier, just start getting rid of the bees. But if I did that, the bees wouldn't survive, wouldn't pollinate the trees, and there would be no fruit to bear for the world's survival. Accepting God's will that they have stingers, I see the miracle of life and need no more knowledge seeking of his existence. Of course this frees me up to work on other issues.
