TO ALL YOU MOCKERS
and why would god let me get raped.. people..
read the book of Job! see where satan tells God that job isnt really as faithful as he seems and gets PERMISSION to test Job by killing his enmtire family, giving him boils, taking away his land and cattle.
Job does not recant. He stays faithfull. God restores his house, and children doubly what he had before. Maybe God is just testing us to see if we will trust him, or science , Not by might, not by power, (or by mans work or science) by MY spirit says the LORD! we dont know Gods plans but we can stand in faith aboutn OUR lives!

Ok if God so chose to take my life for whatever reason, i dont fear . I know I'll be with him and death is ntohing fear, but look forward to. I'm not saying i want to be murdered or killed brutatly. I am saying my soul is saved no matter what, polar caps melting or another 9/11. Besides i know that when I am right with God i am safe (safe doesnt mean unable to be hurt or die either) I dont Believe gos wanted 9/11. Maybe satan wanted to test our nation (the christains) and like Job, God allowed it.
WE DO NOT KNOW HIS PLANS FOR US!
we take what we a re given and truust that even in the face of evil, God is still in controll!

Kathy***** you like erica are so science oriented that you (against the laws and foundation of science) did not get all the information. before God flooded the earth, there was NO ice, NO rain, Nothing but the oceans and rivers HE created. he opened the heaven (for the first time) and flooded the earth, he didnt melt the caps and reak havoc!

I seriously doubt God is using a non-believer of the one and only TRUE god, to tell me somthing.... I do think we have to take action but i dont believe the earth will flood. I habve a Promise. As do all men. Its in the Book of Genisis and It states that God himself said I will NEVER AGAIN flood the entire Earth. So I ask My self should i be more concerend with some polar caps, or the threat of Jihadist whos very religion is based upon destroying all my kind ? *(meaning Christains), and Jews? The Iranians with Nueklear weapons fightinmg not us but our God?

Ok so "god helps those who help themselves" this is not true. God tells us to stand in faith but walk in wisdom, Be as wise as a serpent, and as gentle as a dove.
we depend on God for Every thing . Air, rain, food, Health, not one fiber of our being would exisit were it nto for him. so even if you dont believe he can help with the polar caps, dont you owe it to him to at least keep him as a factor? He did CREATE the earth, Oceans, Atmospher, Caps, You, Animals, Disease, Everything. So you asl why God Judges?Ok say you created this amazing software, and got no credit at all for it. except by your3 friends.the whole world used it and no one believed you made it or gave you recognition. Then it has a glitch, and crashes everyones computers, when those who stole your credit cant help,THEN they run to you.Do you Help them?OR sit idly by?What do you do? are youcompasionate and forgive? Do you angrilly Judge those who knew better?whatwould you do inGods place. His Creation is like the sofware

You can't count on God for everything, sometimes you have to take control of things yourself. I remember I saw an episode of ER once and these people said it was against their religion to have medical treatment because it was "all in God's hands" So they wouldn't let their own child have medical treatment when her condition would kill her otherwise. So, is that what you are saying that we should do? Just stop helping ourselves and hope God fixes it all better? That is a moronic way of living. We have had "God on our side" since the begining of time and that hasn't stopped bad things from happening has it? Where was God when thousands of people were killed on 9/11? Do you even know the definition of faith? It means to believe in something with no actual proof of it's existance. I'm sorry but I'm not going to go around playing with fire, standing on towers during thunderstorms, and jumping of clifs because GOD IS ON MY SIDE. Maybe thats just because I actually have a brain. This is a crisis on earth, it could change everything. If the polar ice caps melt 1/3 of the state of florida will be underwater and that is including highly populated cities like Miami. We need to take it in our hands and do something about it. Not use faith as a way to sit on our asses and be lazy.
I just had to add this because something occured to me. Doesnt this whole situation sound a little familiar? Humans abused the Earth that God created, they abused eachother and he in turn caused a huge flood to wipe them all off the face of the Earth. What makes you think he won't do it again?

Global warming is not hype.
This is science, not religion
If you insist upon bringing your "god" into it, isn't that the same dude who flooded the planet eons ago? How do you think he did that? Maybe he started by melting some ice.
Since when is "liberal talk" such a "bad" thing? I believe everyone has the right to their own opinions and I try not to knock others, but there are so many self-righteous, pompous people on this site, that at times I find it difficult.

So, you expect God to constantly save us from ourselves?
Here's a joke my old Rabbi used to tell:
A man is living by a river that floods. As the waters rise, the man climbs onto his roof. A boat comes by to rescue the man, but he refuses, saying "I know God will save me". Later, as the waters are climbing to his rafters, another boat comes by. Again, the man refuses, insisting God will save him. Finally, as the waters close over his roof, a helicopter comes and lowers a harness. Again the man refuses. Soon the waters rise further, and he drowns. In heaven, he approaches God, and says, "Lord, I believed in you all my life, I was a good man, why did you desert me and not save me from the flood?" God responds, "I sent two boats and a helicopter to save you, did you expect a fiery chariot?"
The moral being that God will help save those who believe, but he's not going to do all the work for you
WIth Global Warming, God has given us our brains, and the tools to do something about the problem. If you're expecting a Deus Ex Machina to come and solve the problem, you're bound to be sorely disappointed, and very hot.
Edit: Interesting thought, Guelph. Your version is a bit more fleshed out; mine is from 30 years ago, so I might have misrembered some of the details, but the message is the same.
2nd Edit: Cowgirl, it's one thing to have faith. It's another thing to be so blinded by faith that you are unable to think rationally. You are well beyond that point. Contrary to what you may think, most scientists believe in God, and many are devout in whatever religion they practice. The difference is that they accept that God not only gave them life, but the intelligence to explore and observe the world around them. Part of that means not blindly accepting anything, even articles of faith.

So do you think that God will keep the air OK right where you are, but let it be bad for the rest of the unsaved people?
If people are making a mess of the world that God set up, then we need to correct our ways. I'd think he (or she) would prefer that we made an effort to keep the air clean and not just sit around praying about it.

So everything, everywhere is controlled by God? Have you ever been hurt, physically or otherwise? Did God do that? When women get raped, is God directing the rape? When children die, does God pull the trigger? If everything that has ever happened has been because God wanted it to happen, then God has alot of explaining to do. And after the explaining, God needs to be beaten. Repeatedly.

Perhaps a parable is in order: During the floods of Katrina a man decided that, as he was a good, faithful Christian and had God on his side, God would save him and his house. When a truck full of his neighbors drove by, they offered to take him with them. He declined, stating that God would reward his faith and his house would be spared. The waters began to rise, so the man sat on his rooftop and prayed. Some men in a rowboat came by, and offered to take him with them. Again he declined, saying that God would reward his faith and spare his house. Soon after they left, the waters rose above his house and he clung to a tree branch. A helicopter flew by and offered him salvation but again he refused it, ardently averring his faith would prevail. Soon after he lost his strength and drowned. When he reached the gates of heaven and was greeted by Jesus he was upset, and demanded to know why God did not save him and his house. Jesus replied, "What do you mean? He sent your neighbors to save you. He sent a rowboat. He even sent a helicopter. What are YOU doing HERE?"
The people of Pompei thought they had a god or gods on their side. I'm betting a lot of those people who got blown up in that market in Baghdad the other day thought they had God on their sides as well. You can't factor God into any equation because He/She/It is an entirely unknowable, unquantifiable property.
And you're right. It is Liberal talk. That's because we Liberals deal with facts, with knowable reality. We play with the cards we have in our hand. You're suggesting we bet the pot on an inside straight.
Update: what a spectacular coincidence that both of us thought of the same parable upon reading your question. I wonder what God is trying to tell you through us.

Urban you are in serious need of an education - get a couple of college courses in before you go spilling whats floating around in your head to the masses. So many of us just feel bad for you or worse.
Introductory Anthropology touches on religion and gives you a much more practical perspective on reality - minus the hogwash.

Simply unbelievable! Flyboy and Guelph, you guys may not be religious but you certainly have angels by your sides! Urban Cowgirl, if you do not see their parables as a divinely inspired wake-up call from your blind delusions, then you are seriously in the grip of the Enemy. I believe in God but you would be seriously insulting me if you try to make me believe that he orchestrated the murder of my best friend's mother! That he would be sending this murderer to Hell because He planned it! People always have a choice and if it is their choice to keep the ball rolling toward the edge of the cliff, then the hell that follows will be something we will have to endure.

No. 100% non-believer.
Put it in the religious section, not in science.
The data on their own do not support the dire predictions that many politicians use to fabricate an issue they can exploit for votes. No need to invoke a god to refute the absurd ramblings of a former senator.
