The only state capable of pulling this off is Texas. Because when they signed with the union they had a clause that stated if they ever wanted to break away from the union and become their own country they could do so.

i dont think they can.... the only state that is able to do that is Texas. Texas has the right to pull from the "union" because they signed a guarentee when they joined...

We are the only state that can legally fly the Texas flag alone, or at the same height as the U.S. flag... and other interesting facts:

NASA's in Houston
(so, we basically control the space industry).
85% of the gasoline in the United States is
refined in Texas City.
> Over 65% of the defense industry is located here. (The term "DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS" would take on a whole new meaning.)
> Oil - we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years.
>Natural Gas - Again we have all we need.
> Computer Industry - HP, Texas Instruments,Dell, Compaq, EDS,Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Semiconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Delphi, Nortel... All located here.
>Health Care - We have the largest research centers for Cancer
research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world.
>Education - Between U.T., Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Rice, TCU, SMU, University of Houston, Baylor, University of North
Texas and Texas Women's University we ought to be covered. Ivy grows better in the south anyway.
>Labor - Lots of workers here (and just open the border when we need some more)
>We have control of the paper industry, plastics, insurance, etc.
>Defense - In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard.
>Agriculture - We are totally self sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs,
chickens and vegetable produce.
*Gotta mention that we have an abundant supply of the best-looking ladies in the whole world. And any snide
remarks about our women being "corn fed" will get your butt kicked --by our women!
We have Faith in God as our Supreme Creator and Savior.
>Texas will have "In God We Trust" on the front and back of its own money.
>Texas will have prayers at all sporting events.
>Texans will have the Ten Commandments posted
> where ever they want.
>Each school day will be opened with prayer.
>We've got mountains.
>We've got beaches.
>East Texas is forest.
>West Texas is desert.
>There isn't a thing out there that we need
> and don't have.

'Nuff Said....

Hasn't this already happened? hehe The Civil War happened because the south wanted to break away from the union and become a separate nation... resulted in a civil war.

The term is called secession....to secede from the union. Legally?? Can't be done. It would be illegal and treasonous.

Some states tried it in the 1860s. It resulted in the Civil War. And, by the way, it was not successful.

This happened before, there was a scuffle called the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln decreed that no state can 'break away' from the U.S.

There is no legal way for a state to secede from the union. It would have to be approved by 2/3rds of the voters and it'll never happen.

Sorry, part of the reconstruction. You can't. Not legally at any rate. I can't say that I blame you for your sentiment though. I'm from Wyoming, and coming from a state that contributes significantly more to the country then it gets from it, I understand why you would be interested in doing so.

Since 1865 that option has been closed. However, as it is said, "never say never." I suppose they could get support from some foreign government ... but that still would not work unless the federal Government was willing to let them go. I suppose that someday it will happen. Probably not in my life time, however.

Not going to happen. The previous result was the civil war.

couldn't as they are part of a union of states. once they became part of the union, territory and a state of the union they can never get out of it. if they never joined they would have been part of the country that once owned it. the constitution and the bill of rights describe what each state must do.
