Presumably, if your loyalty lies with those whom you are supposed to be allied against.
Personally, I am a strong believer in loyalty.

if other people's lives are at stake and someone is remaining loyal to a criminal by not revealing information that may be relevelant to an arrest. for example: brother of a serial rapist knows his whereabouts but refuses to talk to the police.

Under abuse. I will not remain loyal under circumstances that allow mental, physical, sexual, spiritual etc abuse to fall upon myself or my loved ones. I am loyal to a fault where I think it is deserved and reciprocated, but I will not permit myself to be walked all over.
