Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina. Also, Virginia and Florida were part of the Confederacy, but culturally they aren't so Southern, anymore. Oklahoma is more Southern by virtue of its culture. Kentucky and parts of West Virginia and Missouri claim they are Southern because they were border states during the Civil War. Maryland and Delaware are not Southern states by any means.

My picks are...
To live in:
1. TEXAS is awesome! Great people, food, weather, cultures
2. Mississippi: Sweet people, great scenery, very laid-back
3. Alabama: Much like Mississippi, I just like MS a little better
4. West and Middle Tennessee: Close to family in Kentucky, great recreational opportunities

Not to live in:
1. Kentucky: Rude people, overpriced cost of living given such a poor job marker, Louisville is snooty, weather is unpredictable
2. Florida: Rude folks, boring
3: Virginia: Too "yankee"
4. West Virginia: Rude, no job

I've lived in KY, in Louisville, Lawrenceburg, Webster Co., and Campbell Co. The last community is the only one worth living in, in my opinion.

I currently live in Alabama, was born and raised here so it is home I guess but I was stationed in Texas when I was in the military and LOVED IT. First chance I get I'm moving back to Texas.....the Hill Country. (Texans know where I'm talking about).

Worst Southern State. Kind of tough but Louisiana I wasn't impressed with at all. Florida (culturally) is actually two States now, Panhandle and south Florida (a Yankee State).

Oh and geographically speaking, Delaware and Maryland are considered Southern States. Missouri, though a border state in the Civil War, is geographically (region) is a MidWestern State.

I was born in Alabama and I still have family in Bama, Georgia, and Florida, but I never really fitted in with the Southern culture. I've lived here in Minnesota for about a decade and I'm more used to it here, than I've ever been down South. But enough about me!--To answer the question, I love visiting Georgia and Florida, but wouldn't neccessarily want to live there. First chance I get, I'm aiming for California.

Virginia is the 9th richest state in the USA per capita. Florida is the only other state in the south that is above average in income. You threw those out right away and leave the (poor) remainder of the Confederacy! Ugh! The bottom of the barrel is West Virginia, very poor because it is very crooked. Fewer people live in West Virginia than a century ago. Young people flee to Ohio and Virginia as soon as they finish high school. The South without Virginia or Florida -- well, pick one of the boomtowns, such as Atlanta or Charlotte.

Northern Arkansas is nice, but Arkansas has a bad stereotype. I've lived in Texas (Dallas), South Alabama, South Carolina, Florida, Biloxi, MS etc, etc etc. I really liked Dallas, but I'm very happy in North Arkansas now.

Id rather live in Oklahoma and not live in Texas. I lived in Oklahoma for 13 years and Ive been living in Texas for the past 7 months and it SUCKS. People down here are obnoxious and they think that the Longhorns are the only team that exists.

I would rather live in: Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia.
I wouldn't want to live in: Texas(again), Mississippi, or Virginia and I'm not sure about any of these because it is what I know.
