Potential - 9. They were in an easy group, so they had a chance to establish themselves.
Performance - 2. They were just plain awful every match, and without Beckham they might not have even gotten out of group play.

I'd say a full 10 for potential - I really thought they were going to win.
7 or 8 for actual performance - they did what they had to to reach the quarter finals - in doing so they did better than 24 other teams in the tournament- and as well as 3 of the remaining 7 - including the almighty Brazil!
Even the game that saw them kicked out was no disgrace - they held portugal to a draw, despite being without Beckham & Rooney. Even down to 10 men, England were playing the better game. Even with 30 mins added time the portugese couldn't finish us off, so all in all, I think England did a lot better than they are getting credit for.
Roll on Euro 08!

Potential coming in for the usual overhyped side who have not made a Final in eitehr a W=Euro or WC since 1966: a big zero.
Performace: -10. They were not only bad but mindnumbingly boring. Then again the whole World Cup has been awful--worst since 1990. Give me goals or...turn the channel to lawn darts. At least there you may see someone put out an eye.

I would say, potential = 9, performance = 7.
I hope they can do better on the next World Cup with their new coach.

6 performance -- they made all the way until spot for quarter finals. And I believe that it was Rooney that kind of ruined the teams' spirit and the game.

i rated it like this because it takes alot of courage and Strength to make it to th world cup and the rest it the easy part, the hard part was to get in the world cup.
