I glanced over that article - geez now if you want to give me some pbs.org news article you might get some respect but some far right unaccredited news site... give me a break.

With that said, I truly feel sorry for ppl like you that are led to places like that in order to form your views. I truly pray for you. I very sincerely do.

I pray to GOD to help you find a way to a peaceful soul, serenity, and the ability to grow beyond your prejudices. I also pray that he will lead you away from those demonized places that are trying to blackwall your mind and fill your heart with hate. I pray he that he guides you more toward truth of yourself.

GOD Bless!

Ha ha , that's the best you empty brains got, yeah let's instead of aborting a bunch of unwanted children, have the irresponsible parents give birth to them, then we'll end any sort of government help to raise them, and then we'll proclaim to be able to interpret the Bible any way we want and then use that interpretation to forward our political agenda and push it on people by saying "well I think that's what the Bible says about it". Yeah well if you feel so strongly about it, why don't you stop gripin about it and adopt yourself an unwanted black child, and you'll get a tax credit on it that more than makes up for what goes toward welfare. Hey, I don't exactly love the current welfare system either, but I don't want to do some dumbass stuff like make a bunch of unfit mothers have unwanted kids and then cut welfare and say "well ya should read the Bible thar". God, that just shows the stupidity of the Republican party right there folks, I don't have to tell you, you can see it for yourself right there. If you great and holy God's Republicans really care about those aborted children to be, then go ahead and adopt some kid from the ghetto, and then maybe after there is'nt so many unwanted children already living in the country, then maybe people will see it fit to end abortion, but before then, shut yer goddam idiot cokholes. Goddam hippocrite s.o.b, crybabies. Looks like this monkey with lipstick said a whole mouthfull

Before I answer this question I would like you to take your thoughts out of a bi-partiship level. Democrats and Republicans envitably have the same definite chief aim in office. There mutual goal is to create a better standard of living for the American people. When American life is more progressive American's give more and enable other country's to become more progressive. I didn't really read the whole article, but I really believe that the leaders of this country need to start running it from a higher power perspective. Take the focus off of left and right wing politics. Take the focus off of bashing the other group, and instead join in and help the other group when the other group has a good idea, and if their idea could use some correction then offer advice in a diplomatic and tactful manner. Don't focus on the negative's of the other party and their ideas, focus and build on the positives.

Ranting and ravings. Bill Cosby said it best. It is time for Black Men to stand up and take responsibility. This problem has not got much to do with supporting and trying to help people. This comes from despair. Because they have no hope, they have no ambition. Where are the parents of these girls having babies. And besides this was in Texas, the land of no child left behind, so what happened? You really can't have it both ways. Why were all these children left behind??

Progressive is not a "new term", it was around for most (all?) of the 20th century. That Ms. Parker considers social justice to be "a clunker" says a great deal about Ms. Parker.

The rationale for the Roe vs Wade had ZIP to do with any notion that "personal standards are relative and not relevant to our public life. The decision was inevitable in that the government failed demonstrate a compelling reason to interfere with an individual's choice in the matter. Compel means force. In cases where someone's rights are being infringed upon, the government has a compelling reason to interfere with those doing the infringing; that is, the government MUST take, is COMPELLED to take, reasonable action to protect those rights. The government case failed to establish (1) that a fetus is a person with rights to protect or (2) that the right of this supposed person to exist supersedes the right of an adult to be free of its intrusion into the body of that adult.

Ms Parker notes that in the last 40 years or so, large sums have been spent "addressing poverty", and yet poverty had not been eliminated. She seems to imply that, this proves that this a poor way to direct out public monies and should be ceased. I wonder if she applies this reasoning to the so-called War on Drugs?

She goes on to assert that effort to address poverty have had "negligible results and massive social costs", but give no support for this statement. Social programs have had dramatic positive impact. Medicare and Medicaid, for example, have greatly reduced the number of our seniors living abject poverty and prolonged their health and their lives.

She goes on to observe that households with two wage earners are likely to have household higher incomes than those with only one. Duh.

The next paragraph is a beaut. "France and Germany sit with double-digit unemployment rates, ..." (If we count welfare recipients and 'discouraged workers', as France and Germany do, what do you suppose OUR unemployment rate is?) " ... massive red ink from welfare-state obligations ..." (Massive red ink from social programs to benefit citizens is somehow worse than massive red ink from poorly planned military adventures?) "... and fertility rates so low that their overall populations are shrinking." (Huh? Fertility rates? What exactly is her point with that little observation? Brownie points with the eugenics crowd maybe?)

Her next pronouncement is that if people are poor, it's their own fault. The old "poor people are stupid and lazy" card. This is obviously untrue. The single most accurate indicator of individuals' financial standing is the wealth of their parents. Not intelligence. Not dedication to work. Not education. The primary index is the accident of birth. If we except athletes, entertainers, lottery winners, and those who have received huge legal settlements, nearly zero Americans are born into poverty and rise to wealth. Even fewer are born to riches to sink to poverty.

When there are so many intelligent, self-denying, and hard-working people who spend their lives struggling to little avail, clearly there are factors other than poor choices or unwillingness to work hard obstructing the economic self-betterment of those born to poverty. But Ms. Star chooses to dismiss this obvious fact, and rely on ... THE BIBLE!

That's right, Ms. Parker's study of scripture tells her that poor people are poor because they deserve to be poor! "My take on Scripture puts individual responsibility front and center and says that the quality of our lives directly reflects how we choose to live our lives." Well who needs observable fact or reason, when you have FAITH?

And then the clincher. "Black family life is, on average, in much worse shape today than 50 years ago, and black poverty persists." Guess what, Star? WHITE family life is, on average, in much worse shape today than 50 years ago! Adjusted for inflation, the minimum wage is LESS than in 1960. A steady full time job doesn't raise a family above the poverty line. It now takes two years of college to get the same low end jobs a FREE high school diploma used to qualify kids for. The decently paying manufacturing jobs are gone, zip, no more!

Sorry dude, but I'm not "destroyed" at all. If this had been a high school debate class, Star Parker would have earned big fat "F". Unsupported assertions, appeals to emotion, and just plain 'inaccuracies' don't cut it. Nor do your own ad hominem attacks.

Get a brain, then we will debate.
