It really depends on where you are travel ling to.
Here are some general suggestions:
Original and copies of I.D. (driver's license, birth certificate, passport)
First aid kit
Motion Sickness pills
Gum (for air flight)
Baby wipes (for freshening up without a washcloth)
Good book
Non-perishable snacks (granola bars, etc.)
Good walking shoes
Map(s) of the area(s) you're traveling to
Camera
Extra batteries
Film (if the camera is not digital)
Sunglasses
