The roots of the Beatles are in the Liverpool-based skiffle group, The Quarrymen, started by John Lennon, and joined by Paul McCartney and George Harrison in 1958. Pete Best was recuited as drummer, and Stuart Sutcliff as bassist, there were several name changes, and the Beatles became a real commercial entity, playing legendary stands in Hamburg. Sutcliff died in 1962, and Best was replaced by Ringo Starr the same year, resulting in the four-piece line-up that rocketed to fame.
