yes, some animals it's hard to tell at first, but as you bond with them and study their facial expressions and body language you can tell if they are happy and smiling or not.

Although my cats give me the impression they are happy, through purring, wanting to be affectionate, looking at me in a certain way, I don't think my cats have ever truly smiled before, in the way I think of smiling.

i swear to god mine DOES! and he winks and my family thinks im crazy. he is a yellow lab, 2 1/2 yrs old. a male. he is so cute.
