That is hidden by their clothes, and if it has irreversible damage? What is the polite thing to say in a situation like that?

Also, if it was several years after the accident.

DAAAAAYUMM! That is hideous! Good thing it's tucked away!

No just kidding. I'd probably just say that it's good that the damage wasn't more exposed or that I am glad they are around after the accident. I'd rather have a friend with an injury than to wish I still had my friend.

Tell him to Thank God that he lives and he is a very strong person. Tell him to still fighting for been a better person and do not worry about the body, that is not what really matters when love comes.

Ask your friend questions about the accident. It is obvious that your friend is ready to share this with you. Ask how it felt. if they had a lot of pain.

be honored that you are trusted with the sharing.

Thank your friend for sharing this with you, That you are sorry they had to go through such an awful experience.

Working as a nurse, I suggest the following.....

"I think you've done a really great job dealing with this....and if at anytime you have something on your mind or you want to talk about your injury, you have an open ear here."

Say "Don't worry about it, its hidden by your clothes and when you meet someone they should love you for you and not your body!" Of course always say "It doesn't even look that bad!"

Hope that will make them feel better!

I'd say "sorry about your accident, at least you have a cool scar and a good story to tell"

depends on how long I've known them;
if it was just a week, sorry...and I'm glad your okay now. But if it was longer, than I'd show deeper regret and feel for them, but give them a good chuckle and make sure I didn't feel sorry for them, also I wouldn't want to offend them. So it really depends on how well you know them.

There's really not much of anything for you to say. I don't think the purpose of showing you this injury was to get you to say something appropriate.

It was more than likely shown to you to get an honest response out of you. I don't think your answer will come from this website, it will have to come from your heart.

Peace Out.

friend of mine showed me an ankle hurt in a motorcycle accident, looked like it was almost severed - I said,"eyow that looks like that hurt!" he agreed and told me the story - no big deal - if they are showing you they expect questions.
