The producers wanted to "renew" the franchise because, although "Die Another Day" was the highest grossing Bond movie so far (worldwide gross: $456,000,000), the series lost it's way with the last few Bond flicks, in terms of quality. Plus, "Casino Royale" is the only Ian Fleming novel that hasn't been given proper film treatment. It's supposed to be Bond's first outing as a spy, so it had to require a younger Bond and PB didn't fit the mold. But personally, I felt he had at least one more Bond flick left in him, before he goes into Roger Moore territory.

He found the role of Bond too limited & the scripts silly. It takes a special actor to deliver those awful sexist lines with the right amount of "tongue in cheek"(Sean Connery did it best). I think by the time he was freed up to do Bond he had become alot more serious in his actting & it was not a good fit.
I'm crazy about Pierce but I never saw him as a great Bond. My Fav movie with him was The Thomas Crown Affair..wow! Though the Taylor of Panama was exceptional.

Roger Moore. He replaced into Bond in seven action pictures: "stay and enable Die," "the guy With The Golden Gun," "The secret agent Who loved Me," "Moonraker," "on your Eyes in straightforward words," "Octopussy," and "A View To A Kill." Connery regarded in six action pictures, George Lazenby in a unmarried, Timothy Dalton in 2, and Pierce Brosnan in 4. note: Connery's "under no circumstances Say under no circumstances lower back" is in conserving with "Thunderball," which replaced into depending on the unconventional of a similar call that Bond author Ian Fleming wrote after aborting a script he and picture producer Kevin McClory worked on. "under no circumstances" isn't an "reputable" Bond movie because it replaced into not produced through Eon Productions, which owns the movie rights. even if, Connery replaced into Bond from 1961 to 1971 -- with a wreck for Lazenby's visual charm in "On Her Majesty's secret service" -- at the same time as Moore replaced into Bond from 1973 to 1985.
