We are a new 20-yr-old rock band on Long Island looking to play gigs at live music venues and bars. Some of the venues we are looking to play at are asking what we expect for payment. What is a fairly standard rate for a full gig???

I am managing this band, but am completely new to this type of management. They are a very talented band and definitely capable of bringing in a crowd of loyal followers (at least 50 ppl should be no problem at all). A ton of live experience at private parties or get togethers, but little experience at bars or clubs...hence getting out to those small venues starting now. Not in union. Probably a 12 song set (6 original, 6 covers) around 45 mins to 1 hour.

Are you in the musician's union??? There is a scale minimum then. Also how much experience do you have? Are you "known"? Can you bring in a crowd of followers? What type and how large of other gigs have you done in the past? Do you have good references from the folks that have hired you in the past? All that comes into play.

Depends on the circumstances, you could be paid anywhere from $500 to $1000, at least those are the rates in and around my local area.
